2000 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible "BRICKYARD 400" Track car

Official Track car used at the 2000 Brickyard 400 NASCAR RACE

Some say the muscle car era was over in the early 70's This car is proof that the 'good old days' maybe were not that good.....

....This is one of the last of the breed, Sadly the Camaro and Firebird were phased out in 2002. This example is a 2000 with the LS1 engine and an automatic overdrive transmission. I am the original registered owner and the car has only 3400 miles on it.

The 4th generation Camaro's were really some of the best performing 'musclecars' ever built. The LS1's aluminum block engine produced 320HP at 5200 rpm and 345 lb/feet of torque. Power and performance is what these cars were all about. Stock Camaro SS and Firebirds are some of the quickest cars Detroit ever produced. They were capable of 13 second E.T.'s at the dragstrip at over 100 mph, 0-60 in under 5 seconds with a top speed of over 150 MPH. All this with decent comfort, and air conditioning. Not to mention the EPA highway fuel economy is rated at 28 MPG.

Perhaps CAR CRAFT magazine said it best " THE LS1 IS SIMPLY THE BEST ENGINE EVER INSTALLED IN A CAMARO OR FIREBIRD. IT'S BETTER THAN THE ZL1, BETTER THAN THE DZ302,AND BETTER THAN THE '70 LT1 OR THE '93 LT1..." "...THE LS1 MAY BE THE BEST SMALL BLOCK V8 EVER PRODUCEDBY ANY MANUFACTURER,AND FROM 2003 0NWARD THE ONLY WAY TO GET ONE WILL BE IN A CORVETTE." (Car Craft magazine May,2002)

Brickyard 400

This is an extremely rare car, according to Scott Settelmeyer,Chevrolet Camaro assistant brand manager. This particular car is #12 of 53 identically equipped Camaro SS convertibles ordered for the 2000 Brickyard 400 Nascar race. This car was driven by Dr. Henry Bock, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Director of medical service. These cars were used for promotion and driver introductions before the race
